About QuickTimeVR
For the use of panoramas on the Internet and on CD ROM, Apple’s QuickTimeVR is the most widely used and most developed technology available.

The users are able to view 360° of their surroundings from the perspective of the photographer. To accomplish this, a series of photographs is tied together by software to form a panoramic cylinder.

Recently, this feature has been expanded with the addition of a cube; instead just a cylinder, which is used as the projection surface. In contrast to the narrow vertical angle of the cylindrical panoramas, the full vertical mobility of +/-90° makes the field of view complete. The photographic expenditure is naturally higher, because substantially more photographs are needed.

Navigation in the panorama
One can navigate through the panoramas very simply by clicking on the image and, while holding down the button, moving the mouse in the desired direction. To zoom in or out use the "Shift” key or with "CTRL” (Mac), or with the "+" and "-" icons on the panoramas boarder.

Some panoramas contain so-called "Hotspots", which can be used as links to other panoramas or simply as Web-links. Here, in some cases they serve only as legends (e.g. for mountain summits). The cursor modifies its shape when it passes over a Hotspot. In order to display the Hotspots, one can use the "?” icon in the panoramas boarder, by clicking on it with the arrow pointer.
